The Baja King Junior (Japanese: バハキングJr., Baha Kingu Junia) is a Racing Mini 4WD car released by Tamiya on July 9, 2003. It was based on the Baja King R/C buggy by the company.
General info[]
Inspired by the racing buggies in the Baja 1000 race, the Baja King featuring the open-wheel, blocky racing buggy design, with the 3-window canopy. A pair of exhaust pipe props were protruded from the side cowls, and a rear spoiler was attached on the rear. Headlamp was placed just below the front window. The damper props were placed near the wheels.
It is mainly in two tone colors of yellow and silver, with black, pink and blue highlights with white trim.
It was equipped with the white large diameter flat dish wheels paired with the black Avante-type tires. Both the chassis frame and A parts were molded in black.
About the Baja King 1/10 R/C buggy[]
Released in 2002, the Baja King is the entry-level four-wheel-drive R/C buggy released by Tamiya. It utilizes the TL-01B chassis, which was debuted with the release of Baja Champ R/C buggy back in 1998.
The TL-01B chassis, which is the off-road buggy variant of the on-road TL-01 chassis, featuring the compact monocoque chassis frame, and has the shaft-driven four-wheel-drive drivetrain. It is support by four independent double wishbone suspensions, with one coil-spring damper per supension system. The 540-size motor was mounted transversely into the rear of the chassis frame, and the battery was placed transversely into the middle. The chassis is lighter than other R/C buggy chassis since many parts are plastic parts.
Despite being the entry-level R/C buggy chassis, it has its own weaknesses; Due to the design of the chassis frame, it is very difficult to maintains the chassis, especially the gearboxes. The power transmission efficiency is very poor due to large number of gears were being used for its drivetrain. The supension arms and battery holder parts can breaks easily due to being made of soft plastic.
The chassis was supersedes by the TT-01 chassis.
