The Brake Sponge Set (Japanese: ブレーキスポンジセット, Burēki Suponji Setto) is a Mini 4WD Grade-Up Parts released by Tamiya on March 26, 2011. It is primary uses to provides braking, preventing the car from flying out on the slop sections and lane changer sections .

As of 2015, there are 2 variant available: the regular 3 types variant and the 1/2/3 mm variant.

General Info

Both variants of the Brake Sponge Set comes with one FRP Reinforcing Plate Set, sponges, washers, screws, spacers, lock nuts (all depends on the sets) and the 50 mm x 100 mm double-side tape. By install the FRP plate with the spacers onto the rear stay, it acts as the brake skid bar.

The 3 types variants, as its name suggest, have 3 different pairs of sponges made with different sponge materials. Each of them are in different colors, so the racer can identifies what sponge type they are.

The 1/2/3 mm variants, however, provides total of 5 sponge tapes of the same material with different thickness. However, most racers found that the braking power doesn't varies much than the 3 types variants. The red sponge set has the same friction as the gray sponge of the 3 types sets, while the blue sponge set has the same friction as the green/blue sponges of the 3 types sets.

The sponge tape can be attach to anywhere underneath the chassis.
