The Cross Spear 02 (Japanese: クロススピアー02, Kurosu Supiā 02) is an upcoming Racing Mini 4WD car released by Tamiya on Octobe 26, 2024.

It was designed by Takayuki Yamazaki of pdc_designworks.

General info

Just like Cross Spear 01, it features an open-wheel body design, with the side cowls attached to the center body through a series of truss-like structures for both lightness and rigidity. Unlike the 01, the canopy is moved to the front. On the rear of the car is a a integrated spoiler. like many of Yamazaki's designs, it features a user-removable canopy, which is usually molded in different color than the main bodyshell. Underneath the canopy is an integrated driver figurine.

Standard model

The standard model features a light gray brown color with black and white stripes. The canopy is molded in smoke.

It was equipped with the red, small diameter low-profile Y-spoke wheels paired with the black, low-profile super hard slick tires. The chassis frame and A parts were molded in black and white respectively.

About the designer and the company

Born in 1972 in Nagano Prefecture, Takayuki Yamazaki (Japanese: やまざきたかゆき, Yamazaki Takayuki, formely as 山崎隆之 before leaving Honda R&D) is a designer and the founder of the Japanese design company pdc_designworks. He is also a former Honda employee, also working as a designer from 1995 to 2012.

In 2012, after leaving Honda R&D, Yamazaki founded his own design company, which not only focuses on creating designs for cars and bikes, but also fashion, hobby toys and gadgets.

Yamazaki start designing products for Tamiya, with the first being 1/10 scale R/C buggy Dual Ridge (based upon the TT-02B Chassis and the one the Dual Ridge Jr. is based on), which was released on October 1, 2014. He later designed the DCR-01, DCR-02, Ray Spear and Cross Spear 01. The Cross Spear 02 is the 6th Mini 4WD car he designed.
