The Ferrari 642 (Japanese: フェラーリ642, Ferāri Rokuyonni) is a Mini-F car released by Tamiya in 1991.
It was based on the Ferrari 642 Formula One car that was used in the 1991 Formula One World Championship season.
General info[]
The 642 features the low-height, open-wheel body design that is mostly shared with other Mini-F cars that were based on Formula One cars. The bodyshell has the non-removable driver figurine.
All variants were equipped with the gun metal, medium diameter Mini-F wheels paired with the Mini-F slick tires.
Standard variant[]
The bodyshell of the standard variant is mainly in the Rosso Corsa Red, while the front and rear spoilers being in black color. Various sponsors, including Agip, Good Year, Pioneer, Fiat, Magneti Marelli, Weber, Arexons and SKF, can be found on the bodyshell. Oddly, the Marlboro sponsor logo was replaced by the generic logo.
Alitalia Edition[]
The limited Alitalia Edition features the white bodyshell with the Alitalia livery. Other than that, it is the same as the standard model.
About the Ferrari 642[]
Introduced for the 1991 season, the Ferrari 642 was Scuderia Ferrari's Formula One car. It was a minor developed version of the 641 chassis, which in turns the developed version of the 640.
The 642 featuring the monocoque chassis made consists of carbon fiber and kelvar, and is supported by the 4-wheel independent double wishbones suspensions with push-rod actuated torsion bar springs over the telescopic shock absorbers and anti-roll bars. Powering the car is a 3.5 liter Ferrari Tipo 291 V12 engine, and is mated to the 7-speed automated manual gearbox.
The 642 was later replaced by the more advanced 643 in the French Grand Prix at the same year for the remainder of the season.
