Mini 4WD Wiki

The Grasshopper II Junior (Japanese: グラスホッパーII Jr., Gurasuhoppā Tsū Junia) is a Racing Mini 4WD car released by Tamiya on March 30, 1989.

It was based on the 1/10 scale Grasshopper II R/C buggy by the company.

General info[]

The Grasshopper II featuring the white, undersized R/C buggy bodyshell, with the partially-exposed canopy with driver figurine in it. The damper props were placed near the wheels. It has a 'I'm hopping mad' decal on the rear spoiler, the 'Grasshopper' on the side cowls, a 'Team Hopper' decal on the front nose, as well as a 'Works' decal on the roof. It has the car number 56.

It was mainly in white, with red highlights and blue trims.

It was equipped with the white large-diameter 6-spoke Teardrop-type wheels paired with the black Avante-type slick tires. The chassis was molded in gray.

Special versions[]

As of 2016, there are two special versions of the Grasshopper II: the Champion's Gold and the Pearl Special.

The Champion's Gold version, which was released in 1992, has the gold-plated bodyshell, neon-yellow wheels and blue tires.

The Pearl Special, which was released in 1995, has the pearl bodyshell and red wheels.

About the Grasshopper II 1/10 R/C buggy[]

Released in 1988, the Grasshopper II is a rear-wheel-drive R/C buggy released by Tamiya. It is the third model in the Grasshopper line of R/C buggies.

The Grasshopper II improved upon the chassis from the Hornet; Both the body and the battery holder were hold in place by snap pins, the tires were changed to the front 4-groove tires and the rear spike tires. The Grasshopper II was powered by a Mabuchi-made 340 motor.

It was later re-released on April 22, 2017, with the minor modifications (such as replacing the MSC with the ESC) to keep it up-to-date.

The bodyshell of the Grasshopper II was later reused for the Mad Bull.
