The McLaren MP4/7 Honda (Japanese: マクラーレン MP4/7 ホンダ, Makurāren E mupi ̄ Yon/Nana Honda) is a Mini-F car released by Tamiya in 1993.

It was based on the McLaren MP4/7A Formula One car that was used in the 1992 Formula One World Championship season.

General info[]

The MP4/7 features the low-height, open-wheel body design that is mostly shared with other Mini-F cars that were based on Formula One cars. The bodyshell has the non-removable driver figurine.

The bodyshell is mainly in white with red accent. Various sponsors, including Shell, Honda, Good Year and Courtaulds, can be found on the bodyshell. The Marlboro brand logo (which was presented on the real-life MP4/7) was removed and substituted by the McLaren logo.

It was equipped with the gun metal, medium diameter Mini-F wheels paired with the Mini-F slick tires.

About the McLaren MP4/7A[]

Debuted at the Brazilian Grand Prix in the 1992 season, the McLaren MP4/7A is McLaren International's Formula One car.

It has the carbon fiber monocoque chassis, supported by the 4-wheel independent double wishbones suspensions with pushrod dampers. Powering the car is a 3.5 liter Honda RA122E/B natural-aspirated V12 engine, and was mated to, for the first time for McLaren, a 6-speed automated maunal gearbox. The MP4/7A later gained the traction control system at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Another variant for MP4/7A, dubbed MP4/7B, has the experimental active suspension system. Unfortunately it was deemed not reliable after the testing at the Portuguese Grand Prix.

MP4/7A was also the last McLaren Formula One car to be powered by a Honda engine, as Honda pull out from the Formula One race scene at the end of the 1992 season.
