Mini 4WD Wiki

The Mini 4WD N-3U Ni-Cd 1000 (Japanese: ミニ四駆 単3型ニカド1000, Mini Yonku Tan 3-gata Nikado 1000) battery was a rechargeable battery manufactured by Sanyo (a subsidary company of Panasonic) and released by Tamiya in 1988.

It comes in 2-battery pack and 2 charger bundles.

General info[]

The external of the battery was mostly in deep gold with 'Mini 4WD racer', '1000' and Tamiya labels on it, with the green recycle label on the lower part of the battery.

While the other aspect of this battery is the same as the Mini 4WD Ni-Cd Battery, it was its large charge capacity that makes a difference. Due to its large capacity, it allow longer running operation where the Mini 4WD Ni-Cd battery cannot. Since it is the rechargeable battery, it can be recharged with the specialized charger(s).

However, as with other nickel-cadmium batteries, it suffers from a high self-discharge rate and contains cadmium, the use of which has declined in recent years due to its toxicity. This, along with the memory effect common with other nickel-cadmium batteries, led to it being discontinued and replaced by nickel–metal hydride batteries like the NeoChamp.

Ni-Cd AC Fast Charger Set (Green)[]

This Ni-Cd AC Fast Charger Set is the improvement version of the previous Ni-Cd AC Fast Charger Sets. The charger support both Mini 4WD Ni-Cd battery and Mini 4WD Ni-Cd 1000.

Unlike previous charger, it charge a pair of battery to fully charged state in approximately 2 hours. This change was not without reason: In previous AC Fast Chargers, extremely fast charging on Ni-Cd (and Ni-MH) batteries may shorten their shell life and capacity as well as reduces their output voltage, thus affects the Mini 4WD car's overall performance.

Sanyo Ni-MH Quick Charger[]

The FDK-sourced Sanyo Ni-MH Quick Charger (Model NC-MDR02) was bundled in a limited edition Mini 4WD Ni-Cd 1000 battery and charger set.

Since both Ni-MH and Ni-Cd shares similar technical aspects, the charger supports both Mini 4WD Ni-Cd, Mini 4WD Ni-Cd 1000 and NeoChamp batteries. Charge time is approximately 2 hours.

The charger would later re-badged as the AC Quick Charger for the NeoChamp battery.
