Although it bears the name 'Proto-Saber', the Proto-Saber Evolution's body design is no longer ressembles to that of Proto-Saber JB's (and Avante Jr.'s for that matter). Bearing the dolphin motif, the bodyshell was designed to be both sharp and smooth and has a pair of fins on the rear of the front cowl. There are holes that exposes part of its mechanical chassis, such as the micro-chip prop. The cockpit can be open as it is separated from the main bodyshell. There's also the flame-style decals as well as the 'J' decal on it. It is mainly in purple with red highlights.
There are some key differences between the original Proto-Saber Evolution's bodyshell and the Premium variant's bodyshell. The orignal's bodyshell was molded in clear plastic (which in turns requires painting), while the Premium variant's was molded in purple. Furthermore, the holes that were presented on the original's has been filled in order to strengthen the bodyshell.
The Premium variant comes with the silver Raikiri-type small-diameter wheels with low-profile tires. The sub-parts of the chassis for the Premium variant were molded in purple.
In the manga and anime
In the original manga, the Proto-Saber Evolution was develops alongside Spin Cobra in order to fight against Ohgami's group. However, due to time-constraint J puts the development priority on the Spin Cobra. The Evolution was only completed after the Ohgami lab incident. It bares the same mechanical chassis as Spin Cobra.
In the anime, in order to make a return to the Mini 4WD racing scenes, J designed the Proto-Saber Evolution with his friend Go Seiba. The car has the same chassis as Go's Cyclone Magnum. In WGP, It received a upgrade in a form of Dolphin System, in which a pair of fins are automatically adjusts, changing the body aerodynamic to stabilizes the car.
Before the final race against the Savana Soldiers, J, who is under pressure, accept his former friend Rei Hijikata's offer and received a program disc that Rei claims that it will allows the Proto-Saber to create the wind barrier around the car. Being impatience due to Retsu's absence and the team's current points, J install said program disc into his car. Instead of the protective barrier, the Proto-Saber produce the 'Shark Effect' in which not only protect the car and giving it a sudden acceleration, but also destroy the other cars as well as damages the race course, leading J to remove the program disc after being persuaded by Go. The renmant of the Shark system data remains in his car after the disc was removed and the Dolphin System has become the Hyper Dolphin System, in which its 'Dolphin Effect' barrier protects the Proto-Saber as well as other TRF Victorys' cars.
