The TRF-Racer Jr. (Japanese: TRFワークスJr., Tīāruefu Wākusu Junia) is a Mini 4WD PRO car released by Tamiya on April 29, 2006. It was based on the custom R/C car made by Tamiya Racing Factory R/C racing team, hence there's no base R/C model.
It was featured in the manga Mini 4WD Racer Kakeru as Tsugumi Shinozaki's machine, which was later replaced by the Manta Ray Mk.II. It was also featured as a one-scene cameo in the manga Hyper Dash! Yonkuro.
General info[]
The TRF-Racer featuring the two-door, touring car body design, with the flat rear cowl. Tamiya and TRF decals can be found on all over the bodyshell.
The bodyshell, unlike other Mini 4WD cars, was made of clear polycarbonate with plastic mounting attached, meaning it can be painted in any color with spray paint (using special paints for polycarbonate). Because cutting is also required, this makes the assembly of the car harder for those not used to this.
Most variants, except the Limited variant, were equipped with the small diameter 3-spoke VS type wheels paired with the black X-type narrow slick tires. With the exception of the Black Special variant, they were equipped with N-01 nose unit.
Standard variant[]
The standard variant use white as its preferred color, with the splash-style decals that has blue highlights with cyan and pink trims.
It was equipped with the white wheels paired with black tires, and is equipped with the N-01 and T-01 units for its MS Chassis. The nose, center and tail parts were molded in black, while the A parts were molded in gray. It comes with the standard, light gray 16 mm lightweight plastic rollers.
Limited model[]
The limited model is mostly the same as the regular model, but with few key differences.
Both the chassis parts and the bodyshell plastic mounting were molded in glass fiber-mixed plastic, with the chassis sub-parts molded in black.
The wheels and tires were changed to the glass fiber-mixed small-diameter dish-type low profile wheels and low profile slick tires. The polycarbonate was pre-painted in white, however cutting is still required.
Black Special variant[]
The Black Special variant is mostly the same as the regular model, but with few key differences. Whereas the standard model comes with the uncut polycarbonate bodyshell, the Black Special variant comes with the bodyshell with wheel arches precut.
The wheels and the tires were the same as the standard model, but with the white wheels being replaced by the silver plated wheels. It was equipped with the N-02, normal center and T-01 units for its MS Chassis, and were molded in super light gray with black A parts. Unlike other models, it comes with the 13mm Set-Up Rollers.
