The Tom Ghody Special (Japanese: トムゴディ スペシャル, Tomu Godi Supesharu), also known as Spider From Mars (Japanese: スパイダー・フロム・マース, Supaidā Furomu Māsu) in the manga, is a Super Mini 4WD car released by Tamiya on November 30, 1993.

It was featured in the manga The Wind Racer! Otokogi as Tom Ghody's machine.

General info

The Tom Ghody Special featuring the open-wheel body design, with the removable front spoiler and the fin-like side cowls. On the front sides of the black-colored canopy, there's the vertical air intakes protruded from it. On the sides of the side cowls, there's the 'Tom Ghody Special' decals, while there's also a 'Fire Racer' decals on the left side of the front spoiler.

It is mainly in red, with white and orange highlights and deep red stripes.

It was equipped with the white, large diameter 3-spoke lightweight wheels paired with the black Avante-type slick tires. The chassis frame, the A parts and the normal-type side guard were molded in gray, magenta and green respectively. It doesn't comes with a standard motor.

The Wind Racer! Otokogi

The Spider From Mars was found in the graveyard outside of the Amercian military base by Tom Ghody. Unfortunately, the car had already tainted with the dark force and Tom was possessed by it, leading him to destroy any Mini 4WD cars left and right.

Tom was freed from the dark force when the car was purified at the end of the race against Jingi and his Liberty Emperor. Since then, it becomes his own machine.

• The name 'Spider From Mars' is also the name of a rock band of the same name. As such, Tamiya changed the car name to 'Tom Ghody Special' for the kit release to avoid copyright problems with the band.
  • Ironically, the similar name changes would happens decades later with a Fully Cowled Mini 4WD car and a Mini 4WD PRO car.
