The Toyota Hilux Surf SSR-G (Japanese: トヨタ ハイラックス サーフ SSR-G, Toyota Hairakkusu Sāfu Esuesearu-ji) is a Original Mini 4WD car released by Tamiya on January 23, 1996.

It was based on the Japan SSR-G trim of the 3rd-generation Toyota Hilux Surf/4Runner by Toyota.

General info[]

The Hilux Surf features the long, 5-door crossover wagon body design. It has 'Surf' decal on the door sides. It was mainly in light blue metallic, with the silver bumpers and wheel arches.

It was equipped with the silver, 3-spoke Hilux Surf wheels paired with the black RV radial tires. The chassis frame and A parts were molded in black. Instead of the straight-type bumper as most RV Chassis car do, the Hilux Surf comes with a specially designed bumper with the bend ends.

About the 3rd-generation Toyota Hilux Surf/4Runner[]

Developed with the designation code N180, the 3rd-generation Hilux Surf/4Runner is Toyota's mid-size SUV. It went on sale in late 1995 and supersedes the 2nd-genration models.

Compared to the previous generation models, the 3rd-generation models now feature a larger body on a long wheelbase. The new 4Runner also gained dual airbags and ABS in terms of safety.

Powering the 3rd-generation 4Runner are a 2.7 liter 3RZ-FE natural-aspirated inline-4 DOHC petrol engine, a 3.4 liter 5VZ-FE natural-aspirated V6 DOHC petrol engine, a 3.0 liter 1KZ-TE turbocharged inline-4 SOHC diesel engine and a 3.0 liter 1KD-FTV turbocharged inline-4 DOHC diesel engine. The engine is mated to either a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual gearbox, which sends the powers to all four wheels through its part-time four-wheel drive drivetrain. The Japanese models also gained a center differential.

Supporting the ladder frame chassis is the front double-wishbone suspensions with coil springs and stabilizer bar, and the rear trailing arms suspensions with coil springs and stabilizer bar. Braking power is provided by the front ventilated disc brake and the rear drum brake.

The 3rd generation 4Runner was later supersedes by the 4th-generation N210 models in August 2002.
