The Type-5 Chassis (Japanese: タイプ5シャーシ, Taipu Faibu Shāshi) is a Mini 4WD chassis released by Tamiya in March 1992 with the release of Bear Hawk Jr..
General info
This chassis fixed the chassis structure problem that plagues the previous Type series chassis. The chassis's structure is now strengthen despite being lightweight. The chassis's wheelbase is 82 mm long.
The rear hardpoint design layout was changed and is compatible with the rear roller stays that are made to later chassis.
However, there's one weakness: due to using the wider 2 mm width propeller shaft and orange straight crown gears (whose material is harder than the pink helical crown gears, thus requires more time for gear break-in) , the chassis has mild power losses compared to the other chassis at that time.
The chassis was overshadowed by the Zero Chassis which was released earlier than the Type-5, and the chassis was not well-known until the release of Super Avante, which was featured in the manga and anime series Bakusou Kyoudai Let's & Go! that was serializes during the second Mini 4WD boom.
